tristan: The words are made up but the language isn't. They are attempts to coin ethnonyms for people living in US states according to Icelandic morphological rules. Thus, just as Ísland (Iceland) gives Íslendingar (Icelanders) and Reykjavík gives Reykvíkingar, Kalifornía should give "Kalfyrningar" if we -- in jest -- understand the -i- as a genitive ending on "Kal" and mutate the -o- under the influence of the ending -ingar.
